Glacier and spring skiing in Canada
Compared to many European counterparts Canada is located in the far north in terms of latitude.
Add to that it has several mountain ranges of significant height in the West of the country, including the Rockies and the coastal and British Colombian interior mountains. This tends to make the seasons in Canada longer on average than most European destinations.
Most ski resorts in the West tend to genuinely open in November, not with a token patch of artificial snow, but with a comprehensive covering. Likewise, the season tends to extend well into the spring in Canadian resorts in the west because of the altitude that they combine with the latitude.
Backcountry glacier skiing is widespread across the Rockies and the Western mountains but Whistler Blackcomb probably offers the best option for summer skiing and boarding, with lifts running and ski and snowboard camps in operation through the summer months.
